Free City & Guilds accredited horticultural courses*


The Garden has been successfully running level 2 courses in Work Based Horticulture for over 19 years. We are an accredited City & Guilds training centre, currently with a 100% pass rate.

We aim to build student's confidence, motivation and self esteem, as well as providing them with the necessary skills to enter the labour market.

There are three levels of training at the Garden, an award, a certificate and a diploma. You can go into any level of training or work you're way through each stage.

If you are aged 16 to 25 in Southwark or 16 - 29 in Lambeth and not in work, you can attend the course for free. If you are out of the age range or from another borough, you can still attend the course for a fee. To enquire about the price please call us on 020 7582 2652 and ask for Paulina.

Many of our students go on into full-time employment, some making a very successful career in horticulture and others going on to train at a higher level elsewhere.

 

Award Or Certificate In Work Based Horticulture


Mondays 16:00 - 19:00

An accredited City and Guilds training centre, the Garden has been successfully running NVQ training in horticulture aimed at the unemployed for over 19 years. We aim to build students’ confidence, motivation and self-esteem, as well as providing them with the necessary skills to re-enter the labour market.

If you are aged 19 and over, would like to gain experience and knowledge, or kick-start a new career in gardening, then look no further.

Our 10 week evening course run by our Senior Horticulture Tutor and Botanist Peter Martin, will provide you with the skills to gain a certificate or an award in Work Based Horticulture.

Throughout the 10 weeks you will cover a wide range of areas both on and offsite, such as

  • Gardening skills & information for beginners; with equipment provided
  • Maintaining plants and gardens
  • Propagation
  • Plant identification
  • CV writing & assistance in finding employment

You will take part in activities on and off site, giving you a wider range of experience.

Level 2 Diploma in work Based Horticulture


Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 9:30 -15:30

Our Level 2 QCF Diploma is an 18 week part time course run by our Senior Horticulture Tutor and Botanist Peter Martin, who will cover a wide range of areas such as

  • Basic gardening skills for complete beginners; with equipment provided
  • Health and safety techniques
  • Planting & pruning
  • Propagation & identification
  • Help with literacy and numeracy
  • CV and interview prep to help find employment

With a mix of classroom and practical based work, you will learn on the go with us at the Garden and offsite.
