During this workshop, you will get a holistic introduction to yoga as a philosophy; We will practise two types of yoga together and explore various types of meditation, next to getting to learn more about Yoga philosophy, Chakra’s and the Ayurvedic health system.

We will start with a dynamic yoga class of 60 minutes which includes gentle stretches (Asanas), breathing exercises (Pranayama) and a short, seated meditation, also called Yang Yoga.
Introduction to Yoga Philosophy, Chakra’s and Ayurveda
During this hour we will talk about the ancient yoga philosophy, which is over 4000 years old and the basis of many modern day (Eastern) religions. Furthermore, we will explore the interesting world of Chakra’s, or energy wheels, in our physical bodies and the Ayurvedic health science, which is used alongside Western medicine on the Indian sub-continent.
Introduction to active meditation
During this introduction, we will try out 3 varieties of meditation other than the standard seated meditation. Be surprised about the possibilities to attain a Zen-like state!
During this session, we will go through a few restorative poses held for a longer period (a few minutes) to allow the body to fully calm down, prepare for the evening and the mind to focus inwards, also called Yin Yoga. We will use many props for this type of yoga to allow the body to fully relax, so we would ask you to bring some from home (e.g. small pillow or two and a blanket). Also bring along a nice warm pullover and comfortable socks, as the body will cool down during this session.
Meet Sieske Valk
The workshop is given by Sieske Valk; A Free-Range yoga teacher, cat psychologist, dog walker and environmental geographer in one. Sieske runs her company Sies Petcare & Yoga in London since moving to the capital last December, after having lived in exotic places like India, Kenya, Zanzibar and Amsterdam. What You Need To Know
No previous experience is required!
Yoga is a one day class that will start on Sunday at 10:00 - 17:00
We can provide yoga mats, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Please wear clothing that you are comfortable in.
We advice that you bring your own lunch on the day.

If you are a resident of the EEA (The European Economic Area) for 3 years or more and over 19 years old, you can attend one workshop a year free of charge. We ask that you pay a £10 deposit for your place which will be refunded electronically on the next working day after the workshop.
