Diploma in Work Based Horticulture

Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 9.30am -15.30pm

An accredited City and Guilds training centre, the Garden has been successfully running NVQ training in horticulture aimed at the unemployed for over 19 years. We aim to build students’ confidence, motivation and self-esteem, as well as providing them with the necessary skills to re-enter the labour market.

Our Level 2 QCF Diploma is an 18 week part time course run by our Senior Horticulture Tutor and Botanist Peter Martin, who will cover a wide range of areas such as

  • Basic gardening skills for complete beginners; with equipment provided
  • Health and safety techniques
  • Planting & pruning
  • Propagation & identification
  • Help with literacy and numeracy
  • CV and interview prep to help find employment

With a mix of classroom and practical based work, you will learn on the go with us at the Garden and offsite.

Our course is open to people of all abilities

If you are aged 16 to 25 for all Boroughs or up to 29 for Lambeth residents and not in work, or would like a new career in gardening, look no further.

Your benefits are not affected

Many of our students go on into full-time employment, some making a very successful career in horticulture and others going on to train at a higher level elsewhere.

*Southwark Adult learning Services offer to fund one free place for every Southwark resident each year, subject to availability. You need to have been resident for at least two years, not be in any other training and have a national insurance number.
