Introduction to Incense Making

An Introduction to Incense making is a 10-hour course spread over two days.

The course covers beginner basics and tips to get you started in creating and using incense safely; good basic knowledge of key essential oils, herbs, resins and other botanicals, blending techniques and practical skills.  The workshop is structured to allow adequate time for group and individual work, questions and answers, as well as written notes to take away, with additional suggestions and recipes to tailor at home.

We shall explore the following topics so that you can learn how to create two incense recipes to take home to use for mood enhancing, space clearing, meditation etc:

  • Understand the history and use of incense, and the folklore and ritual that surround certain plants

  • Explore and work with a variety of botanical materials including; resins, woods, herbs, flowers, powders, spices and essential oils,

  • Understand sourcing and preparation of incense materials, tools and equipment

  • Sample, discuss and compare different types of incense and historical recipes

  • Learn how to blend and adapt ingredients to suit different uses, intentions and creative purposes

  • Guidance on Safety, ratios, storage, creating formulas and record keeping
