Vertical Gardening: Living Walls

Growing a garden in a vertical dimension can be the best solution for small spaces such as walls, fences, gates or balconies. Herbs, vegetables and fruits can look wonderful specially if paired well with both annuals and perennials to bring a variety of colours to empty spaces. On this workshop Nina Simoes will share her knowledge on how to design and install a vertical garden to suit your own space.  

You will:

  • Learn the benefits of vertical garden systems 

  • Discover the best vertical systems available in the market

  • Design and plant a section of a vertical garden

  • Identify the correct type of substrate

  • Select the best plants, herbs, vegetables and fruits for your vertical garden

Meet Nina Simoes

Nina is a vertical garden consultant and designer. She believes passionately in the power of nature to transform private and urban spaces. She began to design, plant and maintain vertical gardens countrywide in 2016 and since then continues to deepen her expertise in the inspiring world of green walls. 

Nina works for Meristem Design, an award-winning company creating bespoke green solutions. Beyond her design work, Nina also manages and supervises 21 living walls located in private residences, public spaces and schools in Central London. Her most recent walls were designed for Chelsea Flower Show, Chatsworth, Hampton Court Show and Louis Vuitton at Cannes.

She has previously worked for advertising agencies and produced and directed environmental documentaries for Channel 4, BBC and Development Agencies. She holds a PhD on Interactive Media at UAL and lectures at Ravensbourne College .

 What you need to know

  • No previous experience is required!

  • Bring photos / videos of your house plants or house plant problems for the trouble-troubleshooting session

  • Come in clothes suitable for repotting house plants.

  • Our Living Wall workshop is a one day workshop from 11:00 - 16:00
