Weekend Plant Centre Supervisor

Hours: Weekends and bank holidays; dependent on season, daylight hours and events calendar
Wage: £13.90 per hour, 3 or 4 days a week

This is a part-time role reporting to the Plant Centre Manager.

Walworth Garden is a charity dedicated to knowledge and nurture. We aim to improve lives by providing excellent learning and horticultural therapy in a garden that is open to all.

Walworth Garden is a registered charity and Company limited by guarantee. The Charity is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees. Our main charitable work includes horticultural training for people not in work or education and horticultural therapy for vulnerable and disabled adults. We provide services that individuals or other organisations pay for in order to generate surplus income to support our charitable work.

Walworth Garden works with some of the most vulnerable in society and safeguarding is of paramount importance. All staff will undergo a DBS check.

Individual responsibilities 

  • Work the hours requested (dependent on season, daylight hours and workshops) at weekends and bank holidays, and sometimes weekdays, and ensure all operations in the Plant Centre run smoothly. 

  • Oversee the sale of goods from the Garden and prepare online orders 

  • Give knowledgeable advice to visitors about plants in the Garden and for sale 

  • Represent Walworth Garden with professionalism and promote the work of the Charity and the Company 

  • Be our friendly, recognisable and helpful face at our busiest times of the week 

  • Oversee the administration of various workshops run at the Garden, ensuring attendees are welcomed, signed in and catered for

  • Liaise with the Plant Centre Manager and the Head Gardener to instruct, empower and monitor the work of volunteers to ensure they are contributing positively. 

  • Oversee the volunteer calendar and lead volunteer inductions

  • Ensure the safety and security of our property, volunteers and visitors 

  • Maintain, with guidance, our community garden, building and plant centre 

  • Help unpack and price deliveries of plants as and when they arrive 

  • Influence and drive the propagation of plants for the Plant Centre and landscaping projects with guidance from the Plant Centre Manager and Head Gardener. 

  • Complete any other reasonable task as requested by the CEO and managers 

  • Ensure the facility is left in an appropriate state at the end of each day 

  • To work with any work experience placements and give them the best possible outcomes 

  • Ensure our resident cat is put safely to bed at the end of each day
