Terrariums: Growing a Self-Sustaining World

  • Walworth Garden 206 Manor Place London, England, SE17 3BN United Kingdom (map)

Workshop: Terrariums: Growing a Self-Sustaining World

Join our terrarium expert Sanjana for an exploration of cacti, succulent and tropical plants at Walworth Garden, and how to use them to grow your own self-sustaining world. You’ll discover the magnificence of plants’ evolutionary adaptations, applying your new knowledge in a practical session, and leave with your own terrarium.

We will be covering:

  • The fascination of terrariums: your own miniature world

  • How to divide and replant to create an attractive terrarium display

  • The basic science of terrariums, and how they can be a ‘closed’ system that can live for hundreds of years

  • The differences between ‘tropical’ and ‘dry’ terrariums: plants to select, plants to avoid, and how to care for them

  • A practical session creating terrariums using recycled jars, peat-free compost and other sustainable materials

Participants are encouraged to bring their own jar to use as their terrarium, preferably with a lid and preferably a minimum of 2L in volume. Some recycled jars will be available from Walworth Garden in limited sizes and shapes.
