Workshop: All About Soil

There is a whole world under our feet begging to be explored and cherished. Soils give us life, grow our food, and provide a home for billions of organisms. Soil is the heart and soul of our planet and, quite simply, we could not exist without it.

Join us to learn more about this amazing and valuable resource, and how you can nurture and improve the soil you have so that it can work for you and the earth we inhabit.

This is a theoretical, discussion based session with presentations and practical soil testing exercises. We we will cover:

  • How to recognise a healthy soil

  • How to test soil for pH and identify soil texture

  • How to increase the water holding capacity and nutrient value of your soil

  • The value of earthworms to soil and what you can do to support them

  • How we can work against the global warming crisis by capturing and storing atmospheric carbon in the soil.

This session is ideal for anyone who wants to learn how to improve soil so that it supports plant and animal life for the health of us and the planet.

You may wish to bring gardening gloves to wear while collecting and handling soil samples. You are also welcome to bring along 100g dry soil from your garden for testing.
