Workshop: Terrariums: Growing a Self-Sustaining World
Join our terrarium expert Sanjana for an exploration of cacti, succulent and tropical plants at Walworth Garden, and how to use them to grow your own self-sustaining world. You’ll discover the magnificence of plants’ evolutionary adaptations, applying your new knowledge in a practical session, and leave with your own terrarium.
We will be covering:
The fascination of terrariums: your own miniature world
How to divide and replant to create an attractive terrarium display
The basic science of terrariums, and how they can be a ‘closed’ system that can live for hundreds of years
The differences between ‘tropical’ and ‘dry’ terrariums: plants to select, plants to avoid, and how to care for them
A practical session creating terrariums using recycled jars, peat-free compost and other sustainable materials
Participants are encouraged to bring their own jar to use as their terrarium, preferably with a lid and preferably a minimum of 2L in volume. Some recycled jars will be available from Walworth Garden in limited sizes and shapes.
